Hikes Available to Non Members

Process of how the general public can partake in our guided hiking program

Welcome to ORTA. We can’t wait to get out on the trail with you!  Some of our guided hikes are open to non-members. Although we encourage all hikers to consider an ORTA membership, non-members should feel welcome on any open hikes listed. Please note: many hikes will remain “member only”.

Choosing a hike

Hikes vary in difficulty. To help hikers decide which hikes are suitable for them, in each ORTA hike description you will find important pieces of information about speed/pace, distance, and duration. To participate in an ORTA hike, you need to be able to complete the specified length of the hike within the time stated. Choose from the calendar hikes that are suitable to you. Hikes that are open will say 'Members and non-members welcome'  Please read this page to understand hike speeds and what they mean along with other important hiking tips and preparing for a hike https://oakridgestrail.org/hikes/

To sign up to receive the Weekly Trekker emailed report that lists hikes available to non members Join our email list!

When you find a hike that is open to you that you wish to attend, follow the information on what to bring and what is necessary to participate (ie, some hikes have paid parking, some hikes may require icers etc) Show up at the correct location at the time specified and introduce yourself to the hike leader. You will then be directed by the hike leader on signing in process on site.

Non-members are welcome to join two (2) hikes (where they will sign a waiver of participation with the Hike Leader). After a couple hikes you will be encouraged to become a full member and join us in our conservation, community engagement, social initiatives, and public engagement efforts.

Hope you enjoy your guided hike and meeting other hikers.
