The Township of Uxbridge has invited ORTA to participate in their Trail Discovery Day in celebration of International Trails Day on June 6, and we’re excited to be part of it!
Event Details
📍 Elgin Park, Uxbridge
🕙 Saturday, June 6, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
(ORTA and other participant groups may arrive earlier to set up.)
This family‑friendly event will bring together about 24 trail‑focused organizations, including ORTA, the Trans Canada Trail, Ontario Parks, and the TRCA. The Township is planning a fun and informative morning filled with education, demonstrations, entertainment, and guided activities.
Event highlights include:
- An accessible walk at 10:30 a.m. around Elgin Park
- Interpretive guided walks leaving every 15–20 minutes starting around 11:00 a.m.
- A guided mountain bike ride at 9:30 a.m. in tribute to a trail volunteer (returns around 11:00)
- A free BBQ for all participating groups and trail volunteers
This will be a great opportunity for ORTA to connect with the community, share what makes the Oak Ridges Trail special, and help people learn more about the Moraine. It will also be a wonderful networking opportunity with fellow trail organizations and outdoor enthusiasts.
We Need Volunteers at the ORTA Booth
We’re looking for volunteers who can offer 30–60 minutes at our display table.
You don’t need to be an expert — just bring your enthusiasm for the trail!
Whether you’re a:
- hike leader
- trail maintainer
- regular hiker
- Discovery Night attendee
- or someone who simply loves walking the Moraine
…your stories and experiences are valuable. We’ll have everything set up, and you’ll always be paired with fellow ORTA members — no one will be at the booth alone.
Last year many wonderful volunteers — Lissa, Joanne, Heather, Anna, Karen, Bruce, Cathy, Noel, and others — helped at events and found it a fun way to meet new people who love the outdoors as much as we do.
