Celebrating Trail Care and Community on International Trails Day

On Saturday, June 7, 2025, the Oak Ridges Trail Association (ORTA) proudly re-launched the Oak Ridges Moraine Adventure Relay in celebration of International Trails Day. With over 100 enthusiastic volunteers, the event showcased the beauty and importance of the Oak Ridges Moraine Trail, including a key section along the Trans Canada Trail in Secord Forest—a segment ORTA actively maintains.

Thanks to the generous support of the Spring 2025 Trail Care Grant from Trans Canada Trail, ORTA has enhanced its trail maintenance capabilities with the purchase of a string trimmer/hedge trimmer. This new equipment is already making a difference:

  • Improved Trail Conditions: Overgrowth has been cleared, improving visibility and walkability for all users.
  • Increased Volunteer Efficiency: Maintenance tasks are now completed faster and with less physical strain.
  • Boosted Volunteer Engagement: Our volunteers are energized and better equipped to care for the trail network.

The Adventure Relay, a 160-kilometre team event, brought together canoeing, biking, and trail running across 14 stages. A highlight of the day was the Trail Hub, which served as the official Mid-Race Hub, offering a vibrant space for racers and supporters to connect and recharge.

This year’s relay was made possible by a $20,000 grant from the Greenbelt Foundation, reinforcing our shared commitment to conservation, recreation, and community.
