DESCRIPTION:\nJoin us at our September 26th Discovery Night! \nDayna Laxton, Invasive Species Specialist at York Region’s Natural Heritage, and Forestry Section will speak on the following:\n\nhistory of the York Regional Forest and how it came to be the public forest we all know and enjoy today\noverview of the special events and programs that York Region planned to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the York Regional Forest\nprovide a crash course on some emerging priority invasive species that could threaten the York Regional Forest – what they are, signs to look for and how to report suspected sightings!\n\nDayna Laxton is the Invasive Species Specialist at York Region’s Natural Heritage and Forestry Section. Dayna has been with York Region for the last ten years and is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of invasive species management plans and strategies; striving to conserve the biodiversity of the Region’s flora and fauna by supporting individuals and organizations working to prevent, manage, or control invasive species; serving as a resource to the Natural Heritage and Forestry Team specifically; and working closely with other departments and partners to ensure that best practices are developed and that the invasive species information and databases for the Region are accurate, up-to-date, and comprehensive. Dayna is also the lead on many ecological monitoring initiatives for the York Regional Forest and has the pleasure of leading the tallgrass prairie creation and restoration projects at the Bendor & Graves Tract and Nobleton Tract.\n \nDiscovery Night is a social evening with speakers and presentations from here at home and around the world.\nLocation: Ballantrae Community Centre. 5592 Aurora Rd, Whitchurch-Stouffville, ON L4A 7X3\nCost: $10 at the door helps to defray the cost of the hall and refreshments\nWhat to Bring: Lug your own mug and bring a friend.
