  • Mon. 1 March, 9:30am. Palgrave Forest (ORTA map 1). Loop hike 2-2.5 hrs. Slow/mod social outing along a variety of scenic forested trails. Meet in parking area North of Mill Pond at north end of Palgrave, E side of Peel Rd. 50, 2.7km S of Hwy 9. Bring warm drinks and snack.   • Sun. 14 March, 10:00am. Whitchurch-Stouffville (ORTA map 4). Let’s see the signs of Spring on 3 ORT side trails and the main trail – Clarke, Patterson and Dainty. Moderate. Approx 10km, total, 7 with Dainty opt-out. 2.5-3 hours. New hikers welcome. Winter hiking conditions may still be present. Snowshoes, icers, waterproof boots recommended. Easy, slow pace hike or snowshoe, depending on the weather conditions, 2+ hours. Hiking boots, layers strongly advised, icers, snowshoes. Bring a hot drink and snacks.   • Sun. 28 March, 2:00pm. Hike Kettle Lakes Park Trail (ORTA 2006 Map 3). 2 hr. hike. T&B. Moderate pace. Hike a rolling trail through former farm land, past pretty kettle lakes and wetlands.   • Sun. 4 April 10:00am. Mary Lake - Pine Farms (map 2). 6 km, 2 hour hike with a loop, moderate. Meet at roadside parking on Keele St., about .5 km north of 15th Sideroad. We’ll start on the Millar Side Trail, hike around Mary Lake to Pine Farms and back. Water and snacks. Hiking boots recommended. Ken Kishibe: 647-866-7834.

  • Mon. 5 April 9:30am. Easter Monday. Historic Richmond Hill. 6 km, slow pace, 2.5 hours. Loop hike around Richvale Greenway and Mill Pond to learn about the people who built this community.   • Sun. 18 April 10:00am. Leskard village, (map 8). approx.21/2hrs. moderate pace, there and back, up and down terrain, bring birdseed if you wish. Meet at 3-way stop in Leskard Village. From Taunton Rd.E, take Leskard Rd. north for 4 km. to the village, roadside parking, bring food and water; dress for weather and walking conditions, may need icers in the woods.   • Sun. 18 April 2:00pm. Bruce’s Mill CA, family Sunday stroll, easy slow pace loop hike, approx.2 hours. Forested hills and open fields, locally muddy. Hiking boots recommended.   • Mon. 19 April 9:30am. Seneca Collage, King Campus to Aurora (Town of Aurora map). Meet in the parking lot of Confederation Park, Glass Drive off Murray Drive, Aurora. 6 km slow pace, 2 hours. Car shuttle to parking lot adjoining ORTA Office, the Gate House, Seneca College, King Campus. Moderately hilly terrain in places through campus and towards Case Woodlot.   • Wed. 21 April 9:30am. Greenwood Conservation Area (GCA), in north Ajax/Pickering region. Loop hike, 16-17 km, moderate-fast, 4.5 hr. Hilly. From Westney Rd, go west on Greenwood Rd (3.5 km south of hwy 7, 1 km north of Taunton Rd). South (left) at next junction; then right, into GCA, past entrance, straight ahead to main parking lot. This is one of a series of regular joint Sunday hikes until June 13 with TBTC. Good for beginners and families. Come dressed for the weather, bring a snack and water, hiking boots recommended. Take Durham Rd. 57, 11 km. south of Hwy 7A at Blackstock or 17 km. north of Hwy 401 at Bowmanville to Durham Rd. 20, then east 2.5 km. to Woodley Rd. then north to parking. Parking is 4 dollars.
