THE OAK RIDGES TRAIL ASSOCIATION (ORTA) is a volunteer organization committed to trail development across the Oak Ridges Moraine. ORTA's work fosters appreciation & respect for the Moraine's ecological importance & encourages use & enjoyment by the public.
To support this mandate ORTA has developed an event that will:
- Educate people about the Oak Ridges Moraine and its end-to-end trail network
- Encourage the sustainable use and enjoyment of the Trail and surrounding area while exposing more people to the beauty & importance of the region.
The Event is comprised of an annual, cause-based fundraising Relay and an online promotional game. Together these will entertain, engage and educate while supporting the Association and Moraine-based trail network. ORTA is dependent upon it to support the securement and maintenance the Oak Ridges Moraine Trail.
Adventure Relay
Teams of up to 15 people each use only approved means of 'human-powered' transportation to complete the relay (paddling, cycling and running/hiking). Members will complete the entire 160 km course in a single 24-hour period.
Teams pay an entry fee and participants also solicit donations from their personal networks.
The Adventure Relay appeals to corporate teams, community groups, clubs, associations, runners, families, outdoor and adventure enthusiasts.
Online Scavenger Hunt
ORTA has jumped to the forefront of the internet-based entertainment world by creating a leading-edge, viral campaign, designed to increase awareness of, and support for, the Oak Ridges Trail system.
The Online Scavenger Hunt is an internet-based entertainment layer designed to increase awareness of the Oak Ridges Moraine and the trail. The Scavenger Hunt will increase awareness with a much broader audience than would otherwise be possible.
The Scavenger Hunt, through the use of new technology, brings a non-traditional and ‘cool' element to a very important cause.
